Apple Dapple

The first bite of a new crop apple
is one of the best things about
this time of year...

Pumpkins of All Kinds

My new display at Rusty Glamour
is all about pumpkins.
It has "Funkins" that I've
repainted, ceramic ones
and some glass ones that I used a technique
from the blog Twigg Studio
so they have a faux mercury glass finish.
The wheeled cart in the picutre below
was a garge sale find that
my family had some trouble seeing
 as having potential!
It was shiny gold with black velvet
shelves:D

Looking for Joy

If we go looking, really looking
we may find amid the darker days
of life and its sorrows,
moments and gifts of joy.
This is what I found today...

1. the sun on my chilly arms

2. a childs voice saying "Gr-and-ma"

3. flowers on a front porch

4. pumpkin mixes on the store shelf

5. huge orange pumpkins growing by
the road side

End of Summer Supper

As the summer winds down and
peach season vanishes into
fall, it's always tasty
to have peach waffles for supper
with REAL whipping cream!
I'm not sure whether to call it  dessert or
supper, but it sure is good!

Corn Salad

On a few blogs I've seen recipes
for corn salad and with the
corn season in high yield right now
I figured I'd give it a try.
It was absolutely delicious
and I ended up eating it as a meal
for lunch several times.
It may sound like a strange combo but
it is worth a try if you like corn.
   Corn Salad

4 ears of corn cooked and kernels cut off
(or 4 cups of frozen corn cooked and cooled)
1 red pepper cut into small pieces
1 green onion chopped
2 cups of cherry tomatoes cut up
1 c. grated cheddar cheese
1/4 c. mayonnaise  (or to taste)
salt
pepper
2 cups of Chili Cheese Fritos lightly crushed

Mix together all ingredients and serve immediately

I think any vegetable could be added as you wish
depending on taste preference.

Pottery Barn Knock-off Bags

I thought I'd give these bags
a try as they are very simple to make
and I had found some nice heavy tablecloths
at a yard sale to cut up.
However once they were done
they bear a resemblance
to an Army bag...
I did add french sayings
like
"Farmers Market"
and "groceries"
to try to make them more feminine
We shall see if they sell at my space or not!

Coffee Toffee Bars

These bars are a treat I've always
enjoyed at Christmas time
when my sis in law Amy makes them.
However being GF has taken that
pleasure away.
The other night I was craving something
different for a snack and suddenly
remembered these and decided to try
them GF and they are just as
good!
Coffee Toffee Bars

1 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp almond extract
1 T. instant coffee powder
2 1/4 c. flour (I used Mamas Almond mix)
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 c. chocolate chips

Combine butter, sugar, almond extract &
coffee powder. Cream together. Combine
dry ingredients & add to creamed mixture.
Stir in Chocolate chips.
Press into 9x13 pan. Bake at 350*
for 20 minutes. Cool. Frost with
almond buttercream frosting if desired.

Frosting
1/2 c. butter
3 c. powdered sugar
3 T. milk
1 tsp almond extract
Combine all and beat until light & fluffy.

They are actually very good without the
frosting also, but I'm a frosting lover so
I did them like Amy does!

Circus Party for Pierce

My little grandson is one!
Where did this year go?
We wanted to do something fun
and outdoors for his party so
we chose a circus theme
and ordered a downloadable pkg
to do all the paper props and invites
from Printmagic on Etsy.
Pierce was so cute and smiled
pleasantly at everyone
through out the evening,
including while trying to rip off
his clown props in the Photo booth!

As you can see we served Circus/Carnival
food and candy, and it ended up being
a fairly thrifty party as a lot of
things were
 purchased at Dollar Tree,
including the popcorn bags and clown noses:)

Labor Day 2012 @ Camp Creek

Labor Day saw most of my family
up on the Mountain camping.
It was a little challlenging for me
as there were no showers (gasp)
just outhouses and it was
 icy cold at night
in my tent!
But a good time was had by all and
it was a fun way to bring summer
officially to a close, (sigh)
